Under the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Improving Livelihood & Enterprise Development (I-LED) program the nursery establishment & management training was conducted in earthquake affected region of NWFP and AJK.

23 participants including grantees, nursery growers and Ministry of Agriculture AJK agriculture extension field workers attended this specialized course for 5 days. Every participant received a tool kit at the end of this course.

Agriculture holds the same importance in Pakistan's economy as tractor holds in agriculture, while distributing Tractors to the October 2005 earth quake affectees, Dr. Mohammad Riaz Deputy Program Director of USAID funded I-LED program said.

Dr. Riaz told that I-LED Program in striving to restore the business and economy of earthquake affected areas of Pakistan and Kashmir, for which USAID has granted $ 28 million under Improving Livelihood & Enterprise Development Program (I-LED).

An MoU was signed among Engro Polymer and Chemicals Ltd (EPCL) and Royal Aabyari (Royal PVC Ltd) and CNFA/I-LED {implementing a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project "Improving Livelihoods and Enterprise Development"}. The primary objective of this MoU is to introduce High Efficiency Drip Irrigation Systems in Manshera and Bagh, the two worst affected districts in October 2005 earthquake, to achieve sustainable livelihoods through improved quality of irrigation system and efficient use of water resources.

An MoU was signed between Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) and CNFA (implementing a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project "Improving Livelihoods and Enterprise Development") here in a local hotel at Islamabad. The primary objective of this MoU is to assist the poor communities of Manshera and Bagh, the two worst affected districts in October 2005 earthquake, to achieve sustainable livelihoods with an improving quality of life through reduction in the incidence of poverty.

Hybrid seeds distributed in quake-hit area under USAID funded I-LED program.

Islamabad-Pakistan/ October 24, 2007 - USAID funded Improving Livelihoods and Enterprise Development (I-LED) program implemented by CNFA , a Washington D.C based international development organization, has launched an ambitious program of distributing free of cost hybrid seeds in the quake affected areas of Pakistan to improve agriculture economy of natives. Initially, the I-LED is distributing hybrid seeds of Maize, Potato and Tomato after successful trial experiment in the local environment.

126 shepherds of small ruminants were trained under I-LED program.

Islamabad/ Pakistan - Special on field training session was held for shepherds of small ruminants (sheep and goats) at Borawai-Kaghan Valley by CNFA I-LED program funded by USAID, in technical coordination with Livestock Research Station (LRS) Jabba, Manshera. The purpose of conducting this training session is to catalyze the local economic development process in the earthquake affected region of Pakistan.

Islamabad/ Pakistan - USAID funded program I-LED (Improving Livelihood and Enterprise Development) rolls out third batch of hospitality workers consist of 71 trainees from the earthquake affected areas of Bagh District of AJK. This one month training in front office management, food and beverage service and house keeping was organized by CNFA with the technical assistance of Pakistan Tourism and Hotel Management Institute Karachi from 30 July to 30 August.

Under the USAID funded Improving Livelihood and Enterprise Development program (I-LED), the first value chain micro grant was distributed for the purchase of buffalos by CNFA Inc. The grant was disbursed in the Bagh region, which is one of the districts that was most affected by the earthquake in Kashmir. Initially, 46 buffaloes were distributed to program beneficiaries on Friday. The distribution cost of the project's first phase was US$50,466 ;( PKR 3,280,000). The buffalos were also tagged and vaccinated before being handed over to the beneficiaries.

In order to improve the standard of services of hotels and enable unemployed youth of the earthquake affected areas get jobs in hotel industry, the Improving Livelihood and Enterprise Development Program of CNFA Inc. has launched a comprehensive plan to train human resource in the field of tourism and hotel management.
