Karachi (dpa) - Pakistan Saturday released a group of 107 Indian fishermen along with their 17 fishing boats and handed them over to a visiting Indian fishermen delegation, officials said.

J. J. Paramar, head of the Indian delegation who received the fishermen, told Pakistani officials that they were on their routine fishing trips when pushed into Pakistani waters by the recent cyclone.

A tropical cyclone hit India and coastal Pakistan recently killing hundreds of people and rendered homeless thousands others.

The Chinese Red Cross has donated 50,000 US dollars to cyclone relief in Pakistan, providing much needed funding to assist victims of flooding in Sindh province. The Chinese Red Cross, which itself responded to the biggest floods in decades last year, delivered the funds to the Pakistani Red Crescent through the Chinese embassy in Islamabad on June 1.
Abdul Rafiq Burki, secretary general of the Pakistani Red Crescent expressed his sincere thanks, saying the donation demonstrated the profound friendship between the people of Pakistan and China.

ISLAMABAD (June 1) XINHUA - China's National Red Cross Society Tuesday donated 50,000 U.S. dollars to Pakistan's Red Crescent Society as relief assistance to the cyclone-hit area in southern Sindh province.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Lu Shulin handed over the check here to Abdul Rafiq Burki, secretary general of Pakistan's Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

PAKISTAN -- CWS-Pakistan and its local partners are working to distribute emergency relief one tent, one tarpaulin, and one food basket each to 1,000 of the most vulnerable families in one of the poorest areas of Pakistan's Sindh province, after a May 20 cyclone that destroyed 2,000 homes and inundated 40,000 acres of land. At least 700 people are missing. The homeless are desperate for shelter, and strong winds and rains have hampered relief work. CWS is appealing for 60,000 in support of this effort.
