Highlights

  • According to the latest available statistics from IOM and the Djibouti government, 35,562 persons of mixed nationalities have arrived in Djibouti as of 23 April 2016 (since 26 March 2015). Of those, 19,636 persons (56 per cent) are Yemeni nationals, 13,962 (38 per cent) are transiting migrants and 1,964persons (6 per cent) are Djiboutian returnees.

  • As at 17 May, a total of 899 refugees returned spontaneously home from Obock (Markazi camp and Obock town).

  • UNHCR and ONARS (the government refugee agency) registered 209 new arrivals (62 families) on 29 September and 138 individuals on 30 September.

  • As of 30 August, UNHCR registered 1,214 families / 2,603 refugees in Obock. Of these 1,038 families/1,967 refugees originate in Yemen.

  • On 28 August, Mr Otaibi Saad, Deputy Chairman of the Al-Rahma Association visited the Al-Rahma orphanage and Markazi Camp. UNHCR facilitated his camp visit.

  • Refugees from Bab-El- Mandeb gradually returning to Markazi, as a result sector 2 is more densely populated than it was the previous week.

Yemenis applying for asylum in Djibouti are hosted in the Markazi camp in Obock.
