Hamayoon Sultan, Islamic Relief’s senior impact evaluation officer is speaking about the subject at the UK Evaluation Society Conference today.

Alongside André Clarke of Bond, the UK international development network, Hamayoon will discuss how NGOs can make better use of evaluations and share them more widely for greater impact.

Foreign Minister Bob Carr today announced a new $25 million contribution to the World Food Programme (WFP) during the first official visit to Australia by its Executive Director, Ms Ertharin Cousin.

Minister Carr said the money would address pressing needs in the Sahel, South Sudan and Pakistan.

"I am pleased we are able to announce an extra $10 million for the escalating food crisis in the Sahel and $5 million for WFP operations in South Sudan."

With at least 19 United Nations staff members imprisoned or "disappeared" around the world, the twenty-fourth annual Day of Solidarity with Detained and Missing Staff Members will be marked by a ceremony on Wednesday, 25 March, at 11 a.m. in the United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) Club on the third floor of the Secretariat Building.

This year's ceremony will highlight the dangers faced daily by staff members and associated personnel, as well as journalists, around the world.

Un prêt de 40 millions d'euros a été accordé à la République Islamique du Pakistan pour le financement d'un projet de reconstruction de logements individuels dans les zones rurales affectées par le séisme du 8 octobre 2005.

Ce tremblement de terre a causé la mort de près de 73 000 personnes, et près de 3,5 millions de Pakistanais se seraient retrouvés sans logement.
