UNHCR in 2017 – by the numbers

As of September 2017, UNHCR’s budget is at an historic high of $7.763 billion, which is currently 46% funded

This growth is concurrent with the unabated levels of global displacement, with 67.7 million people of concern to UNHCR worldwide.

The funding gap is widening, now standing at 54%. Based on indications received from donors and analysis of funding trends, UNHCR estimates the gap may reduce to 47% by year’s end.

Many of these people remain in displacement across the country, as conflict prevents them from returning to their areas of origin.

Negotiators from Afghanistan, China, Pakistan and the United States met in Oman on October 16 to try to find ways of reviving peace talks with the Afghan Taliban.

It was not clear whether any Taliban militants had joined the talks, which have so far failed to restart a peace process that collapsed in 2015.

Taliban sources have said they would stay away from the discussions in Muscat, casting doubt on prospects for reviving the long-stalled negotiations.

As of 15 October, a total of 286,918 people were displaced due to conflict in Afghanistan. This is up by more than 20,000 people compared to the previous week. The provinces sheltering the highest numbers of IDPs are Nangarhar (34,872), Kunduz (28,427), Badghis (24,625) and Baghlan (18,788).

PESHAWAR: About 415 patients have been tested positive for dengue in the 41 dengue screening health camps organized by Pakistan Red Crescent Society Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Peshawar and adjacent districts.

However in a total of 4230 outpatient department (OPD), 2212 patients were examined in which 415 among them were tested positive for dengue, said PRCS KP Health Manager, Dr Babar Jadoon while talking to media on Sunday.

GHALANAI: At least 2,400 patients among them 879 females have been examined in free medical camps organized in parts of Mohmand Agency to facilitate and provide free medicines to tribesmen.

During these camps, deserving and vulnerable communities of tribal agency were beneficiaries of 10 days long medical camp and it was organized by Pakistan Red Crescent FATA Branch. Political administration provided full proof security to medical staff.

The meeting of the so-called Quadrilateral Cooperation Group, or QCG, in the Gulf state is taking place after a gap of 16 months. Senior foreign ministry officials from the four nations will lead their respective delegations at the talks.
