The G8 countries are contributing to an improvement in Afghan-Pakistan relations with a joint action plan consisting of 70 different projects. Closer cooperation between these two neighbouring countries is a key factor in enhancing stability in Afghanistan.

BOT KHAK, Afghanistan, December 24 (UNHCR) - As nomadic animal herders, the Kuchis have a good eye for land, honed from centuries of moving in search of greener pastures. So when thousands uprooted themselves from Pakistan and returned home to Afghanistan, one imagines they headed for nothing less than the Garden of Eden. What they found was an arid dustbowl mired in dispute and scattered with explosives.
The saga started in spring this year, when Afghan Kuchi elders of the Ahmadzai tribe got together from all over Pakistan to discuss their situation.
SDC Reconstruction Project in Pakistan
In three villages in the earthquake-damaged district of Batagram, eight hundred children returned to school at the beginning of October 2007.
Religious and social rules are strictly observed in the district of Batagram, making it particularly important to establish good trust with the population. Just how important it is can be illustrated by the fact that Pakistani construction workers from the northern town of Gilgit are regarded as foreigners here. But appearances can be deceptive.

The International Rescue Committee has received a $1,000,000 grant from the South Asian Earthquake Relief Fund (SAERF) to support communities in Pakistan still recovering from the devastating effects of the 2005 earthquake.
ISLAMABAD, 17 December 2007 - Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) has approved an amount of Rs. 1.725 billion for the reconstruction of quake-hit areas, Chairman of the Authority Altaf M.Saleem said on Monday. "The amount will be spent on completion of 281 high priority schemes," Altaf M.Saleem said in a news conference here. He added that ERRA, on November 30, last started a targeted vulnerability survey to identify most vulnerable communities including widows, orphans, disabled and landless people and make efforts for their rehabilitation on priority.
