THE PRESIDENT: One month ago, the nation of Pakistan suffered its worst natural disaster in a century when a massive earthquake struck northeast of the capital city of Islamabad. The human toll is staggering. This disaster has taken the lives of more than 70,000 Pakistanis. It has injured almost 70,000 more, and left nearly 3 million people without their homes.

In India, the earthquake killed more than a thousand people and injured over 6,000 others.

MANAMA, Bahrain, Oct. 20, 2005 - French and American sailors worked together in Bahrain Oct. 19 to get some of life's basic supplies - bread, milk and flour - to victims of the earthquake, which occurred in Pakistan Oct. 8.

The crew of FS Var, the flagship for Commander Task Force 150, a multinational coalition which usually operates in the Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman and the North Arabian Sea, craned off more than two tons of food supplies destined for Pakistan. Cmdr.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 9, 2005 - Combined Forces Command Afghanistan, at the request of Pakistan's government, will send U.S. Army helicopters and support personnel to Pakistan to help with emergency recovery operations in the wake of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck south Asia Oct. 8, coalition military officials here announced today.
