Three heavily armed suicide bombers attacked a crowded church Sunday in Quetta, southwestern Pakistan, killing at least eight worshipers from the minority Christian community.

Officials and doctors said women and children were among the victims of the attack on the Bethel Memorial Methodist Church, located in a highly secured central part of the city.

BANGKOK, 15 December 2017 – Governments and stakeholder partners from across Asia have renewed their commitment to a substantial increase in the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies by 2020.

The call for action on Target (e) of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the global plan to reduce disaster losses, was made this week at the ISDR Asia Partnership (IAP), an inter-governmental and stakeholder forum that meets biannually.

In 2010, the humanitarian community established Pakistan Humanitarian Pooled Fund (PHPF) previously known as Emergency Response Fund (ERF) as a pooled fund mechanism to provide rapid and flexible funds in the country at the onset of an emergency.
The majority of PHPF funding acts as a bridge to cover gaps in humanitarian service provision of urgent humanitarian needs. In many cases, this has been the only funding available to meet critical humanitarian needs.

58,592 AFGHAN REFUGEES RETURNED SINCE JANUARY 2017

In November 2017, UNHCR facilitated the return to Afghanistan of a total of 2,603 Afghan refugees, including 2,548 from Pakistan, 44 from Iran, 6 from Tajikistan and 5 from India. This figure is 38% lower than 4,188 refugees who returned in October. Normally return trends decrease from mid-October onward (during winter season).
