La sésamie qui réapparaît dans les bas-fonds et la forte pression aviaire obligent les exploitants des bas-fonds pluviaux, à anticiper des récoltes initialement prévues pour la fin décembre. La consommation de la production verte de ces bas-fonds a déjà commencé.

Ce Rapport couvre la période du 30 octobre au 30 novembre 2003

Sommaire :

Les récoltes sont achevées dans toutes les zones de diéri pur. Il ne subsiste que les cultures des bas-fonds pluviaux qui sont maintenant au stade d'épiaison et de début de maturation et dont les récoltes pourraient commencer en fin décembre.

Les semis des cultures de décrue (bas-fonds et walo) se poursuivent ; les paysans recourent aux graines achetées dans les marchés.

SUMMARY
Regional crisis

Civilians in parts the West Africa sub-region continued to suffer various forms of insecurity during 2003.

In Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, they endured economic stagnation and violent conflicts. In Mali and Burkina Faso, their economies were weakened by the crisis in Côte d'Ivoire.

In Guinea-Bissau, people have faced instability and challenges to their livelihoods. In Guinea and Togo, there has been political instability.

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced a donation of 6,900 tons of food to Mauritania, through the World Food programme (WFP).
The American embassy in Nouakchott said Wednesday the food aid, estimated at 4.9 million dollars, would support WFP's emergency operations in Mauritania.

The food aid includes wheat and vegetable oil.
