NOUAKCHOTT – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomes contributions from Canada, the European Union (ECHO), Germany, Japan, Spain and the United States Food for Peace (USAID/FFP), which have sustained assistance to refugees in Mauritania in 2017. The US$11.7 million in funding has allowed the agency to provide uninterrupted support to some 52,000 Malian refugees in Mbera camp.

6 November 2017 (WMO) - It is very likely that 2017 will be one of the three hottest years on record, with many high-impact events including catastrophic hurricanes and floods, debilitating heatwaves and drought. Long-term indicators of climate change such as increasing carbon dioxide concentrations, sea level rise and ocean acidification continue unabated. Arctic sea ice coverage remains below average and previously stable Antarctic sea ice extent was at or near a record low.

Depuis les premiers signes de sécheresse et de mauvaises récoltes de la région africaine du Sahel à la fin 2011, les communautés de plusieurs régions sont menacées de crise alimentaire.

Cette crise est aujourd’hui une réalité. Plus de 15 millions de personnes sont vulnérables à la faim dans sept pays : le Niger, la Mauritanie, le Mali, le Tchad, la Gambie, le Sénégal et le Burkina Faso.

Les réserves alimentaires de certaines communautés sont déjà épuisées et d’autres diminuent dangereusement.
