Mauritania hosts over 2,200 urban refugees and asylumseekers and almost 52,000 Malian refugees in Mbera, a camp established in 2012 in the arid south-eastern region close to the Malian border.
Despite the conclusion of a peace agreement in 2015, large-scale returns of Malian refugees are not expected due to persistent violence in northern Mali. In October alone, 689 new arrivals were registered in Mbera.

Abidjan, 16 November, 2017 - A newly released nutrition report by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa has revealed that undernutrition is still persistent in the region and the number of stunted children has increased. The Africa Nutrition Report, launched today in Abidjan, Ivory Coast also indicates that a growing number of children under five years old are overweight.

As of 31 October, United Nations-coordinated appeals and refugee response plans within the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) require US$24.1 billion to meet the humanitarian needs of 105.1 million particularly vulnerable people of an estimated 145 million crisis-affected people in 39 countries. The appeals are funded at $11.8 billion, leaving a shortfall of $12.3 billion. This is $1.5 billion less than the gap reported at the end of September 2017.

The neighbourhood of Gourel Nguet, located in the department of Goudiry in eastern Senegal is bustling with activity. There is an endless movement of carts in front of the main store in the area. Hundreds of people, mainly women, are sitting on the ground holding empty basins and buckets. Despite the overwhelming heat, they queue up patiently -waiting to get a food voucher.

L'épidémie de dengue progresse rapidement. Au cours de la semaine se terminant le 17 octobre, 1 130 nouveaux cas suspects ont été signalés, comparés à 525 enregistrés à la semaine se terminant le 8 octobre. Depuis le début de l'année, 4 098 cas ont été signalés.

La prolifération des moustiques due aux pluies alimente la propagation de la dengue.
Le gouvernement a déclaré l’épidémie le 28 septembre.

DENGUE FEVER RAPIDLY SPREADING

The dengue fever outbreak is rapidly increasing. In the week that ended on 17 October, 1,130 new suspected cases were reported compared to 525 in the week ending on 8 October. Since the start of the year, 4,098 cases have been reported. The increase in mosquitoes due to rains is fuelling the spread of dengue. The Government declared an outbreak on 28 September.
