More Than 14m People Face Starvation
At a time when world attention is focused on the growing humanitarian disaster unfolding in Afghanistan, it is important to know that funds raised for such disasters in the UK are monitored, both at the time of delivery and an on-going basis. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) - the UK body which is activated in times of major humanitarian disasters and combines fundraising for 14 of the UK's major aid agencies - publishes today 14th January, their evaluation of the Mozambique Floods Appeal.
This evaluation is published in two volumes. This is an expanded executive summary and contains the full executive summary together with part of the introduction.
Volume one contains the main findings of the evaluation including the executive summary.
Volume two contains the appendices including the detailed beneficiary study and the summaries of the activities of the DEC agencies. Each agency summary looks at key issues relating to the performance of the agencies as well as presenting general data about their programme.
The British public has donated an amazing =A322 million to the joint aid agency appeal for the flood victims in Mozambique. The money raised by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal has already helped to save lives and is now helping to get people back on their feet.
British aid agencies working in Mozambique are struggling to keep at bay diseases including dysentery, cholera and malaria.
As devastating floods sweep across Mozambique affecting nearly a million people, some of the UK's best known charities have announced today that they are joining forces to appeal to the public for help. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Mozambique Floods Appeal launches on Thursday.
