Committee on the Rights of the Child

The Committee on the Rights of the Child today reviewed the second periodic report of Mozambique on how that country is implementing the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Introducing the report, Maria Benvinda Levi, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Mozambique, said that according to the latest census conducted in 2007, they had some 10 million children in the country, of which 5 million were girls. Most of those children - about 7 million - lived in the rural areas.
