The UNIFEM-managed Fund for Gender Equality announced in January 2010 its initial allocation of more than US$9 million to 27 initiatives in 26 countries. The grants fall into the Fund's Catalytic Grant category - one of two types of grants aimed to accelerate the efforts of initiatives on the ground.
The Fund received 1,240 applications, out of which 543 were for the Catalytic Category. A technical committee of regional experts selected 27 proposals for grants ranging from US$100,000 to US$500,000.
New joint programme seen as structured framework for collaboration in the spirit of the "One UN" principles
United Nations, New York - The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) signed today the Gender Equitable Local Development (GELD) programme document, which forges a partnership between UNCDF, UNIFEM and UNDP, to support the improvement of women's access to resources and services at the local level through gender-responsive planning, programming and budgeting.
Harare - After three years of negotiation, leaders of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), signed into effect the Protocol on Gender and Development amidst celebration from activists. The document was signed at the SADC Heads of State Summit held on 16 and 17 August in Johannesburg, South Africa.
