August 1, 2018 – Yesterday World Renew reached its goal to raise $50,000 to provide community kitchens and health, nutrition, and sanitation training among Rohingya families who have arrived at Jamtoli refugee camp in southeastern Bangladesh. The funds will be matched 1-to-1 by Seattle-based non-profit, One Day’s Wages, making $100,000 available for the project.

The funds will provide ten community kitchens at Jamtoli that include

  • ongoing support for cooking daily meals.

  • nutrition training and hygiene and sanitation sessions.

MAY 25, 2018—World Renew is joining One Day’s Wages as it hosts an event in honor of World Refugee Day from 9:30 am to noon at Quest Church (1401 NW Leary Way, Seattle, WA 98107) on June 16, 2018. One Day’s Wages will match, dollar for dollar, up to $50,000 raised by World Renew for disaster programming with Rohinga refugees displaced in temporary camps in Bangladesh.

These two projects are also generously supported by the wider membership of Canadian Foodgrains Bank to respond to the needs of newly arriving Rohingya in informal settlements in Bangladesh. The response will be implemented in collaboration with local partners.

The situation being addressed is beyond dire. Over half a million Rohingya have fled extreme violence in Myanmar in search of safety. Entire villages have been destroyed. More Rohingyas are arriving in Bangladesh every day. Nearly sixty percent of them are children.
