Myanmar version

Yangon, 28 November 2017 - Earlier today, UNICEF and the Government of Japan handed over to Myanmar’s Ministry of Education one of the 78 schools being constructed, rehabilitated or repaired with funding support from the Government and people of Japan. The school construction was in response to the devastating 2015 floods, which hit large parts of Ayeyarwady, Bago, Chin, Rakhine, Magway and Sagaing. Japan provided $10 million to UNICEF to support its efforts to ensure access to quality education for all children from all communities in Rakhine.

On September 26, the Government of Japan decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of 4 million US dollars, through agencies including International Organizations, for the people in Myanmar and Bangladesh affected by the attacks carried out against the security forces on August 25 and subsequent destabilization of the situation in the northern part of Rakhine State, Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

1. In response to the request made by the Government of Myanmar to the Government of Japan to reconstruct/repair 493 schools affected by Cyclone Komen in 2015, Japan provided 1.5 billion yen to the Myanmar's Ministry of Education to support a part of such efforts.

2. Today, the very first school reconstruction was completed in Yangon, and the handover ceremony took place in Htantabin Township.

On July 25, 2017, a passenger ship "KISPANADI 2" donated by the Government of Japan arrived at Kyauk Phyu Port. The ship has departed from Kobe port Japan on 10 July, and arrived safely after 16 days’ journey, and is scheduled to ply between Sittway and Myebon ports of Rakhine State.
