With the pre-monsoon season approaching in February, region and state governments are being urged to draw up year-end planning for disaster preparedness, emergency response and recovery, reviewing the disasters that occurred in their regions in 2017.

Aid from Rakhine State government reached yesterday to victims of a strong wind which destroyed their houses recently.

The authorities delivered cash assistance and aid to the villagers of Shar Shae Village, Mrauk-U Township, where houses were destroyed by strong wind.

During the visit, Rakhine State Minister for Social Affairs Dr Chan Tha and officials viewed the houses and buildings damaged by the strong wind and gave words of encouragement to the villagers.

The Union Government launched the Myanmar Action Plan on Disaster Risk Reduction-MAPDRR-2017 yesterday, assuring that the plan will play a key role in boosting risk-proofing investments in Myanmar.

Speaking at the ceremony to launch the MAPDRR-2017, Vice President U Henry Van Thio said the plan will also cover not only natural hazards but also man-made accidents through a people centred and inclusive approach focusing on managing risks rather than managing disasters.

The Deputy Speaker and entourage donated the rice sacks to the IDP camps in four monasteries in Buthidaung Township and to four monasteries and two schools in Maungtaw Township. The Deputy Speaker discussed about medical aid, food and clothing with the displaced ethnic people and Hindus who fled from the terrorist attacks by ARSA and gave them words of encouragement.
