2. UNDRO/UNDP REPRESENTATIVE REPORTS 3,212 HOUSEHOLDS AFFECTED AND 17,570 PEOPLE RELOCATED TO HIGHER GROUND WHERE 9 RELIEF CAMPS OPENED BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

1. IN NORTHERN MYANMAR, IRRAWADDY RIVER STARTED TO RISE 10 JULY RENDERING 15,000 PERSONS (3,000 FAMILIES) HOMELESS IN SAGAING ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISION. LOCAL AUTHORITIES HAVE RELOCATED AFFECTED POPULATION TO TOWNS ON HIGHER GROUND.

2. RIVER LEVEL STILL RISING AND UNDRO/UNDP REPRESENTATIVE IN CONTACT WITH GOVERNMENT FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS.

2. GOVT HAS REQUESTED UNDRO TO LAUNCH AN APPEAL FOR INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE.

1. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY STATION REPORTS EARTHQUAKE OCCURRED IN VICINITY OF MANDALAY, MYANMAR 5 JAN 14:57 GMT. MAGNITUDE COMPUTED AT 7.2 ON RICHTER SCALE WITH HYPOCENTER AT LATITUDE 23.5 DEGREES NORTH, LONGITUDE 96.3 DEGREES EAST, DEPTH NORMAL.

2. UNDRO/UNDP REPRESENTATIVE IN YANGON IN CONTACT WITH GOVT AND ACCORDING TO PRELIMINARY INFORMATION EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE REPORTED AS NOT MAJOR BUT FULL EXTENT NOT YET KNOWN. UNDRO/UNDP REPRESENTATIVE CONTINUES TO MONITOR SITUATION.
