  1. A poor start to the rainfall season across Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Mauritania has caused significant dryness.

  2. Persisting heavy rainfall following abnormally wet conditions in July has caused flash flooding in Sierra Leone.

  1. A delayed rainy season over Senegal, Mali, Gambia, and Guinea Bissau resulted in abnormal dryness. Despite increased rainfall last week, deficits are forecast to persist.

  2. Below-average rainfall since April has led to early-season deficits and abnormal dryness in central Nigeria.

  3. Heavy rainfall triggered flooding in western Sudan. Continued rainfall forecast next week maintains the risk for flooding.

MIGRANT BASELINE

The 24th round of DTM data collection in Libya took place in January and February 2019. DTM identified at least 666,717 migrants currently present in Libya. Migrants were identified in all 100 municipalities, within 570 communities and originated from more than 38 countries.

This edition of DTM’s Migrant Report includes a new health surveillance component integrated under the Flow Monitoring Survey methodology to better understand the health conditions and challenges migrants face in Libya, please refer to page 15 for more details.

OVERVIEW

The flow monitoring surveys are part of the IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) data collection activities in West and Central Africa, East and Horn of Africa, Libya and Europe (Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Spain), that are conducted within the framework of IOM’s research on populations on the move through Africa, the Mediterranean and Western Balkan. Data was collected between January and December 2018 in the above mentioned countries.
