President of Timor-Leste Addresses the Human Rights Council

The Human Rights Council this morning heard the Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders and the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief present their reports, and then held an interactive dialogue with them. It also heard a statement by the President of Timor-Leste.

The Human Rights Council will hold its twelfth regular session from 14 September to 2 October 2009 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

On the morning of Monday, 14 September, the Council will hear an update by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, to be followed by a general debate.

GENEVA - The United Nations Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, Ms. Asma Jahangir, will undertake a visit to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, the Republic of Serbia and Kosovo*. From 27 April to 8 May 2009, the Special Rapporteur will visit the cities of Skopje, Tetovo, Prilep, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica, Novi Pazar, Priština/Prishtinë, Gra?anica/Gracanicë, Prizren, Gjakovë/Djakovica and De?ani/Deçan.

During her mission, Ms. Jahangir is scheduled to hold meetings with various officials responsible for matters of religion or belief.
