According to UNHCR, there are now 247,000 refugees in Macedonia-including 426 who entered from Kosovo in the last 24 hours. Yesterday 790 refugees were transferred to third countries from Macedonia. Over 79,000 Kosovor refugees have been evacuated from Macedonia to 28 countries around the world to date including 5,658 to the United States.

It has also been estimated that 75,900 refugees are living in camps and transit centers and 120,432 are living with host families. It is estimated that 30,000 unregistered refugees are living elsewhere in Macedonia.

IMC currently has over one hundred people working in four refugee camps: Stankovic I (also known as Brazda); Stankovic II, which has approximately 20,000 refugees and is operating at considerable overcapacity; Jazince, which is at the border crossing area; and Nebrosteno. IMC was already on the ground in Albania as of late last year in anticipation of a refugee flow from neighboring Kosovo, where fighting had broken out earlier that year between the Serbian minority, backed by the Yugoslav armed forces, and the majority ethnic Albanian population. In Skopje, Macedonia, an IMC advance team had already established an operations base before the NATO bombing campaign began in late March.
