Episcopal Relief & Development is supporting the work of the Anglican Church in Mexico to provide shelter, food, water and other basic needs to migrants from Central America seeking asylum in the United States. As part of a joint-proposal sent to and funded by a collective of Anglican Alliance agencies, the efforts help meet immediate and long-term needs, beginning with a ministry through San Esteban Anglican Church in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, across the border from Donna, Texas.

On August 15th, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck the southern coast of Peru, killing over 500 people, injuring hundreds and leaving tens of thousands of others homeless. The deadly earthquake devastated the areas of Ica, Pisco and Chincha, destroying homes, buildings and other structures.

Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) plans to provide emergency assistance to people in Mexico and Belize after Hurricane Dean passes through the Yucatan Peninsula.

Hurricane Dean hit Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula early on Tuesday morning as a powerful Category 5 storm but quickly lost strength as it crossed the peninsula. The hurricane has now been downgraded to a Category 1 storm as of 2pm E.T today.

It struck down power lines and damaged buildings in Mexico and northern Belize, but there are no casualties.

The Category 4 hurricane struck Mexico on October 21, destroying homes and causing millions of dollars in damage to cities including the towns of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel. The storm stalled over the peninsula, pounding the region with heavy rains and winds of 115 mph which knocked out power in many communities.
