Extiende sus condolencias al Gobierno y al pueblo de México y desea que los heridos se recuperen rápidamente. El desastre de hoy ocurre sólo dos semanas después de que el país sufrió un fuerte terremoto, que causó una pérdida significativa de vidas y sufrimiento.

El Secretario General felicita al Gobierno de México y a la sociedad civil por su pronta respuesta.

Las Naciones Unidas están listas para proporcionar apoyo.

The Secretary-General is saddened by the loss of life and damage resulting from the earthquake that took place in Mexico today. He extends his condolences to the Government and people of Mexico and wishes those injured a speedy recovery. Today’s disaster comes just two weeks after the country suffered a strong earthquake, which already resulted in significant loss of life and suffering.

Following are UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's remarks to the press on swine flu, in New York on 27 April:

During the last few days, as you know, we have seen the appearance of a new influenza virus.

It has been confirmed in the United States, Mexico and Canada and is suspected to have moved to other countries.

We are concerned that this virus could cause a new influenza pandemic. It could be mild, in its effects, or potentially be severe.

We do not yet know which way it will go.
