WASHINGTON, DC, November 24, 2009 - The World Bank (WB) Board of Executive Directors approved today a $US491 million loan for influenza virus prevention and control in Mexico. The loan seeks to improve the Mexican health care system's ability to monitor the propagation of the different influenza viruses and control epidemic waves.
The capacity to monitor the propagation of these viruses depends on the robustness of the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (SINAVE).

WASHINGTON, DC, 24 de noviembre de 2009 - La Junta de Directores del Banco Mundial (BM) aprobó hoy un préstamo por $US491 millones para la prevención y control de la influenza en México. El préstamo busca mejorar el desempeño del sistema de salud mexicano para monitorear la propagación de los diferentes virus de influenza y controlar las olas epidémicas.

SILVER SPRING, Md. - A devastating cold front hit Mexico's Gulf Coast in early November, bringing freezing wind, rains, and triggering severe flooding that forced tens of thousands of people from their homes. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is responding to the disaster, distributing emergency food supplies among survivors, the agency reports.
"Although the weather has improved and flood waters are nearly completely gone, the situation for thousands of families remains critical," said Rafael Garcia, country director for ADRA Mexico.
