SUDAN: SCHOOL LUNCHES FOR CHILDREN

UMCOR is working with the United Methodist Church in Yei, South Sudan, to provide lunches for school children. Families returning to the South after years of war are working to reestablish their lives from the ground up. The school nutrition program ensures that children who often walk long distances to go to school will receive a nutritious meal when they arrive.

Cruz Roja Mexicana a través del Área Nacional de Socorros distribuyó los días 14 y 15 de octubre en el estado de Quintana Roo 3,650 botiquines básicos, los cuales serán distribuidos entre las comunidades afectadas por el huracán Wilma que azotó ese estado el año pasado.

Estos botiquines fueron donados por la Federación Internacional de Sociedades de la Cruz Roja y de la Media Luna Roja como parte del programa de ayuda humanitaria y fortalecimiento de capacidades ante los desastres que esta siendo dirigido a las víctimas de fenómenos como lluvias e huracanes.

EL DORADO, Mexico, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Hurricane Lane left a trail of destruction on Mexico's Pacific coast that killed three people, washed away roads and knocked down flimsy homes before fizzling out on Sunday.

Lashing rains turned creeks into raging currents, destroying a bridge between the city of Culiacan and the tourist resort of Mazatlan when Lane made landfall on Saturday as a powerful Category 3 storm.

Direct Relief Sends Aid to Mexico in Wake of Hurricane John

Direct Relief today sent an air shipment, carried by partner group Aero Medicos, containing $10,000 worth of medical supplies and pharmaceuticals to the town of Cadeje in Baja California Sur , Mexico, which was badly affected by Hurricane John earlier this month.

The shipment, composed of antibiotics, analgesics, heart medications and other primary care supplies, was flown directly into Cadeje and will be fully utilized by Aero Medicos' staff of volunteer doctors.
