CAMPECHE, Mexico - Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is committing $44,500 Cdn./$30,000 U.S. to assist people in southern Mexico communities damaged in October by Hurricane Isadore. Funds will be split equally between the eight low German-speaking Mennonite colonies in Campeche state and the surrounding indigenous communities.

A grant from FHI's Rapid Response Fund helped Christians in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula assist their neighbours in the wake of Hurricane Isidore.
Yucatan Presbyterian Ministries (YPM) used FHI's grant to purchase food for 400 people in the villages of Sinaché and Telchac. Youth from Bethesda Presbyterian Church of Canc=FAn packed the food items and assisted in the deliveries. Food packages included cooking oil, rice, canned tuna, beans, corn flour, powdered milk, lentils and salt.

MEXICO CITY, Oct 26, 2002 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Powerful Hurricane Kenna left three people dead and scores of others injured as it toppled trees and power lines in Mexico's Pacific coast, the authorities confirmed on Saturday.

Hurricane Kenna, which slammed into Mexico's Pacific coast on Friday, killed two women in Nayarit state and another one in Jalisco States.

In Jalisco's Puerto Vallarta, a tourist resort, at least 52 people were injured as the hurricane hurled objects through the air, leaving debris strewn in streets.

Mexico City (dpa) - Hurricane Kenna made landfall midday Friday buffeting the Mexican mainland with sustained winds of 185 kilometres per hour and continued inland after uprooting trees, knocking down lampposts and flooding seaside cities and villages.

The Miami-based U.S. National Hurricane Center said Kenna, a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, touched land near to San Blas, Nayarit state.

The eye of the storm was located about 65 kilometres north-northwest of Tepic, Nayarit, and it was moving towards the northeast at 32 kilometres per hour.
