Ten years have passed since the Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami of December 2004. With a view to gathering, learning and sharing from experiences of the 2004 earthquake and tsunami, and other disasters in the region that occurred between 1993 and 2013, the Tsunami Global Lessons Learned Project (TGLLP) was created. The project sought to deliver three principle outcomes: a global lessons learned study, a Discovery Channel documentary tracking the recovery, and a disaster recovery toolkit for recovery practitioners.

The purpose of the Guide on Livelihoods and Economic Recovery Programming in Crisis and Post-Crisis Situations is to connect UNDP Country Offices and their partners with global knowledge and experience on this subject. The Guide documents, for the first time, the accumulation of expertise that UNDP has gained in livelihoods and economic recovery programming in crisis and post-crisis situations over the years. Dozens of UNDP practitioners at the country, regional, and headquarters levels contributed to its preparation.

We are pleased to share with you a new report Tapping the Potential of Displaced Youth: Guidance for Nonformal Education and Livelihoods Development Policy and Practice. Displaced youth have historically fallen through the cracks of humanitarian services and programming. This report synthesizes findings and recommendations from the multiyear (2008–2011), multicountry Displaced Youth Initiative, offering guidance on how to enhance nonformal education and livelihoods development opportunities for displaced youth.
