Sirt, 9/August/2019 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Libya, Mr. Gerardo Noto, and a representative of the International Cooperation Office of the Libyan Ministry of Planning, Mr. Ahmed El-Amine, visited Sirt and met with the Mayor, Mr. Mokhtar Khalifa Al-Madani, and his municipal team to follow up on the progress of the Stabilization Facility for Libya (SFL) activities in the city.

Tommina, 9/August/2019 – As part of its efforts to support psychological recovery from conflict for community members from Misrata and Tawergha, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under its Transitional Justice Project, helped establish a Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) center in Tommina, a town between the two cities. UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Gerardo Noto, travelled to Tommina to visit the center.

UNDP's project 'Strengthening local capacities for Resilience and Recovery' is a three-year initiative aiming at supporting local authorities in Libya to respond to the many conflict and human mobility induced challenges - by strengthening the local resilience and recovery mechanisms - that impact negatively people access to essential services, sources of jobs and livelihoods, the social cohesion and security of communities.
The project is built around 3 outputs:

As part of its efforts to help Libyan authorities to improve basic services delivery to people, the Stabilization Facility for Libya (SFL) rehabilitated 30 schools in Abu Salim, Ain Zarah, Tripoli Center, Hay al-Andalus, Janzour, Souq Al-Juma’a, and Tajoura municipalities.

The devastating floods that recently hit the city of Ghat, south-west of Libya, left thousands of people homeless, caused power and communication breakdown, damaged houses and public infrastructure, and put the city on risk of health disaster due to the mixed sewage and rainwater. Just before the heavy rains, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) committed to including Ghat in the list of the southern cities where recovery and resilience activities are being implemented.

Tunis, 17/December/2018 – His Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Libya, Mr. Sungsoo Choi, and UNDP Resident Representative a.i., Mr. Sultan Hajiyev, signed an agreement today to increase South Korea’s contribution to the Stabilization Facility–Stronger for Libya, by further US$ 1 million.

So far, approximately two million people are benefitting from services restored by the Facility in Benghazi, Kikla, Ubari, Sebha, Sirt, Bani Walid and Greater Tripoli.
