Libya/Mali - Upon request of the Malian Government, IOM carried out last week an operation to assist the voluntary return of 163 Malian stranded in Libya for several months.
Most of the stranded migrants in this group had initially left Mali for Algeria. With the money earned working in the Northern African country they jointly bought a boat to make their way towards Lampedusa in late July, an island known as a prime transit point for migrants wanting to enter Europe, particularly those originating from Africa.

New Returnees from Libya Arrived at Faya
88 Chadian Returnees that been expelled from Libya have arrived at the Northern Chadian city of Faya in Bourkou region on Saturday, 12 October 2013.
As per the arriving group of all Male Migrants, they were in detention centres in varies locations in Libya and were gathered in the southern Libyan city of Sabhaprior to their transportation back home on the back of a truck.

A new mental health programme is ready to transform Libya’s institution-based approach to a community-based approach to mental health care.
Decades of neglect and the 2011 conflict have left Libya’s mental health system in tatters, with only 12 psychiatrists, and services highly centralized at the two psychiatric hospitals in the country’s two largest cities, Tripoli and Benghazi.

Caring for the sick and injured
In northern Mali, the ICRC has made it easier for war-wounded people to obtain emergency care. The hospital in Gao is again operational thanks to ICRC support.
The ICRC supports health facilities in Mali and was on hand for the national polio-vaccination day.
