URBAN SETTLEMENTS WORKING GROUP
INTRODUCTION & RATIONALE
An objective of the Global Shelter Cluster WG on Settlement Based approaches in Urban Areas is to contribute to building a body of knowledge to promote and improve the application of settlement based approaches in humanitarian response.
This initial collection of case studies represents one vehicle the WG is using to further the discussion on settlement based approaches.
The year 2015 marked the 10th anniversary of the Global Shelter Cluster, the inter-agency coordination mechanism for shelter response. During these ten years, coordination has improved in consistency, shelter responses have grown in scale, and there are more people with experience in shelter programming, but people continue to lose their dwellings and be displaced due to conflict and natural disasters. Global humanitarian shelter needs continue to greatly exceed the capacity and resources to respond.
Child Labour in Emergencies: Introducing the New Interagency Toolkit
The Toolkit, produced by the Child Labour Task Force, co-chaired by Plan International and the ILO, was launched in November 2016 during the Annual Meeting of the Alliance in Geneva.
This is the first consolidated presentation of the reported results of CERF funding, covering a full year of CERF allocations. As such, it serves as a pilot and will inform future CERF results reporting. This report was compiled on the basis of information provided by Resident Coordinators/Humanitarian Coordinators (RC/ HCs) and Humanitarian Country Teams (HCTs) in 66 consolidated reports covering the results of more than 450 CERF-funded projects.

or 70 years, securing the health and wellbeing of children around the world has been at the heart of everything UNICEF says and does.
IOM Shelter Operations
IOM’s unique position as an intergovernmental or- ganization allows it to work with quality and scale in natural disasters, conflict, and complex emer- gency settings, delivering urgent humanitarian needs. In this capacity, IOM has both operational and coordination roles, and works with partners through all phases of preparedness and response in support of national authorities. Since 2005, IOM has implemented shelter and non-food items (NFI) projects in over 40 countries.
At mid year, global funding of humanitarian assistance stands at $4.8 billion, or 26% of requirements - the lowest mid-year coverage in ten years. Global financial requirements for 2015 have risen by $2.4 billion since December 2014, from $16.4 billion to $18.8 billion as of early June 2015. Since December appeals have been added for the Burundi crisis, Djibouti, Guatemala, Honduras, Libya, Nepal, the Sahel regio, Vanuatu and Yemen.
