En 2011, tous les yeux étaient tournés vers le complexe de réfugiés de Dadaab, dans le nord du Kenya, alors qu’il accueillait des centaines de milliers de Somaliens qui fuyaient la famine et le conflit. Cette année, c’est l’exode des réfugiés syriens qui a attiré l’attention du public, même si la majorité des Somaliens qui sont arrivés à Dadaab l’an dernier y sont toujours.

In 2011, all eyes were on the Dadaab refugee complex in northern Kenya as it received hundreds of thousands of Somalis fleeing famine and conflict. This year, attention has shifted to the refugee exodus from Syria, even though the majority of Somalis who arrived at Dadaab last year are still there.

Programme Summary:

The first six months of 2010 were characterized by two major earthquake events in Haiti and Chile that required a massive response effort, leveraging the full range of the Movement's disaster response resources, as well as its global coordination and technical assistance capacities. The response operations both demonstrated IFRC's capacity to scale up quickly through the deployment of a focused and flexible global surge capacity.

Chad

Preliminary results from the nutritional survey conducted in early July 2008 in eastern Chad indicated that the global acute malnutrition (GAM) rate (weight for height <- 2 Z-score and/or oedema) was 12.3 percent. As compared to 2006 (GAM rate between 7 and 8 percent), the nutritional status of the refugees has relatively deteriorated throughout 2007 to 2008. The prevalence of GAM deterioration is serious as per the World Health Organization's standard.
