This issue of Knowledge Matters starts with an overview of how Concern understands community resilience and goes on to share learning emerging from its programmes across the drylands of the Sahel and East Africa including Chad, Sudan, Niger, Kenya and Somalia as well as the more flood and earthquake-affected areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. It shares new programme models and tools being used by Concern such as the Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition Surge Approach and the Flood Resilience Measurement Tool.

Executive Summary

This evaluation report aims to provide an independent assessment of the impact of Concern‟s livelihoods emergency response project entitled Filling the Hunger Gap among mobile livestock keepers affected by extreme drought, and protecting assets in Marsabit County, Kenya. The project ran for a period of six months commencing in September 2011 and ending in February 2012.

But transformational changes in both public policy and practice have been few and far between, although increasing access to resources and opportunities for women farmers could substantially reduce the number of hungry people in the world.
