In the absence of reliable comprehensive data on IDP populations across Kenya, conservative estimates of new displacement in 2012 due to inter-communal violence are represented here. Registration of people displaced by the post-election violence (PEV) in 2007 and 2008 was not comprehensive, and the results of a planned verification exercise are yet to be released. UNHCR’s estimates suggest the number of PEV IDPs in the country as of January 2012 was approximately 300,000.
