The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has deployed a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to The Bahamas as Hurricane Dorian-the second strongest Atlantic hurricane on record and the strongest to ever hit The Bahamas-continues to bring life-threatening wind, rain, and flooding to the northwestern islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama.

PORT-AU-PRINCE – Thanks to the expansion of a home-grown school feeding programme supported by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), 43,000 Haitian school children will receive hot meals prepared daily with fresh ingredients bought directly from local small-scale farmers. The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) monitors trends in staple food prices in countries vulnerable to food insecurity. For each FEWS NET country and region, the Price Bulletin provides a set of charts showing monthly prices in the current marketing year in selected urban centers and allowing users to compare current trends with both five-year average prices, indicative of seasonal trends, and prices in the previous year.

  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, and southern Florida on 28-30 August.
