HAITI

The first case of the Mayaro virus disease was detected. This disease is transmitted by the "Aedes aegypti" mosquito, the same transmitter of zika, dengue, yellow fever and chikungunya, among others.

This virus has the same symptoms of the above mentioned diseases: fever, fatigue and pain in joints and muscles. There is no specific treatment or vaccine to prevent this virus.

Detectan en Haití un primer caso de virus mayaro. Esta enfermedad es transmitida por el mosquito "Aedes aegypti", el mismo que transmite zika, dengue, fiebre amarilla y chikungunya.
Este virus tiene los mismos síntomas de las anteriores enfermedades, como fiebre, mareo, sensación de fatiga y dolor en las articulaciones.
No existe tratamiento específico o vacuna para prevenir este virus.

As of 31 August 2016, UN-coordinated appeals and refugee response plans as covered by the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO) require US$21.7 billion to meet the needs of 95.4 million people affected by humanitarian crises in 40 countries. Global requirements are adjusted throughout the year as response plans are revised, both upwards and downwards, to reflect up-to-date needs.
The current decrease has resulted from revisions of plans for Ethiopia, Afghanistan and Yemen.

Education authorities have allocated 1,292,000 soles (around US$347,885) in response to 11 public schools in the province of Caylloma – Arequipa damaged by the 14 August earthquake. Authorities will purchase, transport and install 16 pre-fabricated classrooms, as a temporary solution.

About 1,779 people have been displaced due to flooding and 16 provinces are under alert. Rains are forecasted to continue.

The appeals are funded at $7.2 billion, with unmet requirements totalling $14.7 billion. Overall, donors have contributed $13.7 billion towards humanitarian operations in 2016 and pledged a further $814.4 million.

This phenomenon is not an individual weather event but a climate pattern which occurs every two to seven years and lasts 9-12 months. The 2015/2016 occurrence is one of the most severe in a half-century and the strongest El Niño since 1997/1998 which killed some 21,000 people and caused damage to infrastructure worth US$ 36 billion.
