The Global Humanitarian Overview published on 4 December announced funding requirements of $21.9 billion for 21 Humanitarian Response Plans (HRP) and the Venezuela Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan. By the end of August, requirements had reached $26.57 billion. The change in requirements since last month is mainly due to an increase in requirements for Mali and Zimbabwe, and the publication of the HRP for Venezuela.

The Global Humanitarian Overview published on 4 December 2018 announced funding requirements of $21.9 billion for 21 Humanitarian Response Plans and the Venezuela Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan. By the end of July, the requirements had reached $26.14 billion. As at the end of July, 141.7 million people are estimated to be in need in 57 countries, a slight decrease of 1.2 million from last month. The plans aim to provide aid to 106.3 million people.

NEW YORK/GENEVA, 15 July 2019 – 20 million children worldwide – more than 1 in 10 – missed out on lifesaving vaccines such as measles, diphtheria and tetanus in 2018, according to new data from WHO and UNICEF.

Geneva – IOM reports that 31,649 migrants and refugees have entered Europe by sea through 10 July, roughly a 35 per cent decrease from the 48,612 arriving during the same period last year.

Arrivals this year to Spain and Greece are each over 10,000 individuals (25,800 combined) accounting for almost 82 per cent of the region’s total, with the balance arriving in much smaller numbers to Italy, Malta and Cyprus. Arrivals to Greece are only slightly ahead of last year’s totals from this time last year. Arrivals to Spain are lower.

As of 20 June 2019, the 22 Humanitarian Response Plans (HRP), the Syria Regional Refugee & Resilience Plan (3RP), the Venezuela Regional Refugee and Migrant Response Plan and 2 Flash Appeals that make up the Global Humanitarian Overview require $26.42 billion to assist 106.3 million highly vulnerable people. This is approximately $1 billion more than requirements at the mid-year point in 2018.

By the end of May, the requirements had reached $26.42 billion. The change in requirements since last month is mainly due to the finalization of the Sudan HRP ($1.15 billion) and a $103.7 million increase for Mozambique.

By the end of March, mainly as a result of publication of the Syria HRP requiring $3.32 billion, the requirements had reached $25.11 billion. This month’s increase in requirements for the revised Zimbabwe Flash Appeal (following Cyclone Idai) from $233.8 million to $293.9 million, brings the total requirement as at 30 April to $25.17 billion.

The Emergency Relief Coordinator (ERC) has allocated $125 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for the 2019 first Underfunded Emergencies round to assist some 9 million people in neglected crises across thirteen countries. This is the largest underfunded allocation in CERF history, made possible by the increasing generosity and diversity of donors to the fund.

This allocation round marks the first time country proposals have given specific consideration to addressing four chronically neglected areas, following recommendations by the ERC:
