Operational Updates

  • Under CSP Strategic Outcome 5, WFP provided cash transfers to 4,880 subsistence farmers who lost their crops of staple foods in Moyuta, Jutiapa. Cash transfers covered 60 days of assistance and continued support is planned until the next harvest in August.

• The 2018/19 marketing year (MY) in Central America spans from August 2018 to July 2019, covering three main harvests—the August-to-October Primera harvest, November-to-December the Postrera harvest, February to April Apante/Postrera tardía harvest. While the August-to-October 2018 harvest data consists of more reliable estimates, the November-to-December and January-to-February harvest data are projected and may be updated as up to date harvest estimates become available (Annexes 1-3).

  • Following the eruption of Fuego volcano on 3 June, an estimated 3,343 people remain in official shelters, including more than 1,337 children. By 26 November, authorities have relocated 401 families (1,618 people) from shelters to transitional family housing solutions (ATUs) in Escuintla and Alotenango (Sacatepéquez department).

  • On 18 November, due to a new eruption of the Fuego volcano, nearly 4,000 people from 11 communities were evacuated and remained in shelters in the area for one day.
