On that day, security forces massacred more than 150 peaceful protesters, and more than 100 women were raped. Hundreds of injuries and widespread looting were also documented.

Description of the disaster

Guinea experiencing a measles outbreak, officially declared on February 8, 2017. A response plan was put in place by the National Health Security Agency (NHSA) and partners. It was decided to target children from 6 months to 10 years in 31 health districts. The reasons for the choice of these zones to respond are as follows:

Conakry – IOM, the UN Migration Agency this week (05/09) assisted 132 Guinean migrants to return home from Libya. The migrants, including 10 women, 1 infant, 2 children and 1 unaccompanied child, had requested assistance from IOM to return voluntarily to Guinea after living in Libya as irregular migrants in often daunting circumstances.

Voluntary repatriation: seven (07) Ivorian families of twenty-five (25) individuals were entered on the departure list. Arrangements are underway to facilitate the departure of these families in safety and dignity during the first fortnight of August.

Conakry – On 3 August, 132 Guinean migrants, including six unaccompanied children, returned voluntarily to Guinea from Libya with the support of IOM, the UN Migration Agency, in collaboration with Guinean and Libyan authorities.

William Lacy Swing, IOM Director General, who was in Libya at the time, saw them off at Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport on Thursday. The returnees arrived in Conakry that same evening.
