(LWI) – More than ten million people in Ethiopia need food assistance as the country faces the worst drought in 30 years.

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is supporting affected communities in several states in the country.

“This is the worst I have seen,” said Woday Gelaye, 75, who has been farming in this area for over 60 years.

Coordination of the child protection (CP) response to Sudanese refugees in South Sudan has been mainly driven by the field. In Gambella, there is a child protection working group (CPWG), and two specific groups on information management and case management. At the camp level, there is a weekly working group which covers CP as well as Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV). The Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs (ARRA) participates in the CP working group and in the camp level coordination meetings.

Relocation Site for Flooded Leitchuor Camps Established

(LWI) – Hope for the refugees in the flooded Ethiopian camps of Gambella: A new camp site has been approved for relocation. On Sunday 15 March, the Gambella regional authorities endorsed Jewii as the new camp for urgent development ahead of the next rainy season which is expected to start in May or June. The Jewii camp will have a capacity to host 50,000 people, accommodating the refugees, mostly women and children, from the flood-affected Leitchuor.

GENEVA, 14 July 1998 - The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) will continue its humanitarian aid in Eritrea for another 12 months. The extension was agreed upon in talks between LWF General Secretary Ishmael Noko and Eritrean state authorities on July 10 in Asmara. The LWF World Service (LWF-WS) program will be the only non-governmental (NGO) program active in Eritrea.
