OVERVIEW

MIGRANT BASELINE

The 21th round of data collection took place in July and August 2018. During this round a revised version of the data collection methodology was used to capture additional information on the needs and challenges migrants are facing.

DTM identified there to be at least 669,176 migrants in Libya. Migrants were identified in all baladiyas, within 554 communities and originated from more than 41 countries.

With continued conflict, instability and drought, causing new displacement in Somalia and reduced humanitarian funding in Dadaab, there is a need to strengthen information on humanitarian needs and access to assistance and services in the camps. Since May 2017, REACH has worked with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) on developing tools and methodologies for data collection in Dadaab refugee camps.

The 2017 Sudan Participatory Assessment, conducted between October and December 2017, involved 6,009 Persons of Concern to UNHCR engaged through some 385 semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, individual interviews and participatory observation sessions. This assessment exercise was conducted by UNHCR in collaboration with partners, actively supported by the Government of Sudan, to engage refugees, asylum-seekers and refugee returnees – women, men, girls and boys of di fferent age, gender, nationality and ability – to identify their needs and examine ways to address them.

METHODOLOGY

The DTM Rapid Response Site Assessment tool is designed to provide detailed information at site level for emergencies occurring outside the DTM Mobility Tracking data collection periods. IDP community leaders collaborated closely with IOM as key informants during the assessment. The aim of this assessment is to provide the humanitarian community with up-to-date information on the locations, needs and demographics of displaced populations.

CASH FEASIBILITY AND MARKETS

With over 822, 000 people displaced into SNNPR and approximately 189, 000 to Guji Zone, the needs are many and requiring urgent/immediate humanitarian assistance that cutts across all the sectors. Markets are functioning and well - integrated with Addis Ababa market and imported goods from Kenya, Somalia trade routes and through the port of Djibouti.

There’s evidence that the intensity and frequency of climate-driven natural disasters and conflicts is increasing. Natural disasters now occur nearly five times as often as 40 years ago. The impact on local economies, on peoples’ livelihoods and lives has similarly grown. In some of the worst-hit places, it can seem unrelenting. One drought will follow another, every time stripping away at the limited assets of poor and vulnerable people, robbing them of their self-reliance and wounding their humanity and dignity.

UNHCR is pleased to present the Vulnerability Assessment of Refugees of Other Nationalities (VARON) 2017, an annual report on Iraqi, Sudanese, Ethiopian and other refugees and asylum-seekers in Lebanon from countries other than Syria. The influx of more than a million refugees from Syria since 2012 has partly overshadowed the plight of other refugee communities, many of whom have been in Lebanon since before the Syrian crisis. The VARON aims to shed light on their situation.

In 2017, Standardized Expanded Nutrition Surveys (SENS) were conducted by UNHCR in collaboration with WFP and ARRA from June 19th to 15th July 2017 in Mai aini, Adi_Harush, Shimelba and Hitsats camps.

There are seven refugee camps situated in Gambella regional state the western part of Ethiopia. In 2017 Standardized Expanded Nutrition Surveys (SENS) were conducted by UNHCR in collaboration with WFP, ARRA, UNICEF and key health and nutrition partners (ACF, GOAL, CWW, ARRA and MSF-H) from April 24th to June 9,th 2017 in Kule, Pugnido_I, Pugnido_II, Tierkidi, Nguenyyiel, Jewi and Okugo camps.
