A One Health Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will be implemented in partnership with the U.S was also signed among four ministries.

Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Resources, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Ministry of Culture and Tourism were the signatories.

Addis Ababa, September 22/2018 - More than 1,700 displaced persons from Burayu and its environs due to the recent conflict have returned to their homes, according to Addis Ababa City Administration.

In a press release sent to ENA today, the administration added that the number of persons temporarily sheltered in the capital has reached 15,860, and 1,786 of these have returned to their neighborhoods.

The city administration is relocating some 9,000 displaced sheltered in 9 schools to other centers as classes are to commence on Monday.

  • About 141,410 people are displaced in Somali region immediately after inter-communal conflict started on 04 August 2018. The majority of the IDPs in Jigjiga city (35,450) are sheltering in and around churches. Other regions (Oromia and Tigray) have also reported influx of new IDPs from Somali region following the conflict. IDPs have reportedly arrived in Babile (55,000), Chinaksen (23,000), Gursum (24,000) and Harar (280) in East Hararghe in Oromia region while 2,000 IDPs arrived in Mekelle Town in Tigray region.

Addis Ababa, August 16/2018 - The National Disaster Risk Management Commission warned about a potential flash flood in some parts of the country due to torrential rains in the coming days.

In a presser he gave today, Deputy Commissioner Damene Darota said that some parts of Amhara, Oromiya, SNNP and Tigray as well as most parts of Gambella regional states are vulnerable to flash flood.

Areas close to Awash, Baro-Akobo and Nile river basins and tributaries are also exposed to flood risks, he added.

Addis Ababa July 22/2018 The improved controlling system that Ethiopia has been implementing over the past years has helped to significantly reduce proliferation of malaria, the Ministry of Health said.

More than 75 percent of the total area of Ethiopia is malarious and over 63 million people live in these areas, making malaria the leading public health problem in Ethiopia.

Benshangul Gumuz, Gambela, Tigray and Amhara regional states are among the regions with the highest proliferation of the disease.
