  • Kenya has completed 4 months with no new case of polio reported in the current outbreak. Total number of confirmed cases of WPV type-1 to date remains at 14. Date of onset of paralysis of the last polio case is 14 July 2013.

  • Somalia a total case count of 183. Date of onset of the last case is 9 October 2013.

  • Ethiopia reported no new case during the past week. The country’s total case count remains at 6, with the date of onset of last case of 19 September.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga has moved to restore peace between the warring communities in northern Kenya, asking each of them to pick five representatives who will team up with local MPs to discuss peace at a venue and time he will announce soon.

Mr Odinga visited Moyale on Wednesday accompanied by local leaders, including current and former MPs and spent the entire afternoon in talks with representatives of local communities.

The objective of this enhanced monitoring and reporting is to ensure that new information is incorporated into analysis and shared as rapidly as possible in order to inform decision‐making related to humanitarian assistance.

Leaders from the Horn of Africa region have resolved to develop the Horn of Africa Regional Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Strategy Framework to reduce the impact of disasters in the region.

In a Joint declaration issued at the end of a one-day Summit on the Horn of Africa Crisis that was read by Foreign Affairs Minister Moses Wetang’ula at the United Nations Complex at Gigiri, the leaders also agreed to create and support a Multi-donor Trust Fund for drought and other disasters that will be anchored in the IGAD secretariat.
