Africa Solidarity Trust Fund to support ongoing efforts to eradicate hunger, reduce malnutrition and poverty
28 March 2014, Tunis - A unique, Africa-led fund designed to improve food security across the continent has become a reality for the first six countries slated to benefit from the initiative.
The Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mali, Niger and South Sudan signed agreements in Tunis with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to receive $2 million each from the Africa Solidarity Trust Fund.
Nominations requested for the CERF Advisory Group
The Emergency Relief Coordinator (ERC) has formally invited all Member States to nominate candidates to serve as new members on the Advisory Group of CERF. The Secretary-General will select new experts to serve on the Advisory Group from a range of partners and stakeholders, including Member States, nongovernmental organizations, international organizations, practitioners, and academic and research institutions.
Update of Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) Position:
Based on the past three periods of data, it appears that the African portion of the Intertropical Convergence Zone peaked around a dekad earlier (during August 1-10) than normal (August 11-20) and has begun its retreat southward in, virtually, all regions.
