La situation relative au Criquet pèlerin est restée très préoccupante au Yémen en juillet. Un nombre indéterminé d’essaims a continué à se former dans l’intérieur. Au moins un essaim s’est déplacé dans les hautes-terres centrales, tandis que des groupes d’ailés se déplaçaient vers la côte méridionale. Les fortes pluies et les inondations survenues dans la plupart des zones fi n juillet permettront à la reproduction de se poursuivre et de s’étendre aux plaines côtières de la mer Rouge.

Yemen - IOM Yemen this week marked the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, which takes place on July 30, by hosting a counter trafficking conference in the capital, Sana’a.

Over 300 participants took part in the event to debate trafficking issues in Yemen, particularly child trafficking. Speakers highlighted the need for agencies to act in partnership to protect human rights and improve assistance to victims.

 On 13 June, the Humanitarian Country Team adopted its strategy on the centrality of protection, underlining that protection of affected populations is the responsibility of all humanitarian actors.

Djibouti:
 According to Yemeni refugees in Markazi camp, refugees return to Yemen only to attend urgent family matters. In general, refugees are fully aware that conditions in Yemen are not suitable for sustainable return.

Yemen - IOM evacuation operations out of Yemen resumed this week (13 July) with the voluntary return of 150 Ethiopian vulnerable migrants from Hodeidah, western Yemen, back to Ethiopia via Obock port, Djibouti.

The group, which was comprised of 61 children (7 girls and 54 boys), most of whom were unaccompanied children and 83 females in total, included six medical cases and a pregnant woman.

Highlights

  • Since the beginning of the crisis, IOM has assisted over 73,000 IDPs in Abyan, Aden, Al Dhale’e, Hadhramaut, Hajjah, Lahj, Al Mahrah, Sa’adah, Shabwah, Socotra and Taizz governorates with shelter and non-food item support.

  • In June, 773 migrants living with foster families or hosted at IOM’s Migrant Response Points in Al Hudaydah and Sana’a received daily food assistance from IOM. Since March 2015, IOM has provided nearly 8,000 migrants in Aden, Al Hudaydah, and Sana’a with daily food assistance.
