Sudan is a source, transit, and destination country for migrants. Sudanese migrants are a mixed group of refugees and asylum seekers, economic migrants and, to a lesser extent, foreign students. The majority are men aged 25–40, and they come from a wide range of socioeconomic and educational backgrounds.

January 17, 2016 (KHARTOUM) - The technical committee tasked with redrawing the border between Sudan and Ethiopia said it would complete its work on the ground during this year.

In November 2014, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and Sudan’s President Omer al-Bashir instructed their foreign ministers to set up a date for resuming borders demarcation after it had stopped following the death of Ethiopia’s former Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi.

Sudan - An IOM charter flight has flown 179 Eritrean, Ethiopian and Syrian refugees (42 families) from the Sudanese capital Khartoum to Kassel in Germany for resettlement.

Prior to departure, IOM Sudan provided health assessments and vaccinations for the refugees, who were living in refugee camps in the east of the country bordering Ethiopia and Eritrea.

They included Ethiopians who had lived in the camps since the 1980s and a Syrian family who arrived in 2014.

Ethiopian militiamen are occupying more than 50 villages and a million acres of farmland in the eastern localities of El Gedaref state, says Mohamed El Mardi, chairman of the state’s Legislative Council.

He reported in a press statement on Thursday that the repeated attacks by Ethiopians have prompted a number of Sudanese farmers to abandon their lands and villages in the localities of El Fashaga, El Gureisha, and East El Galabat.

July 6, 2015 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) said that 3000 South Sudanese families have recently arrived in Sudan’s White Nile state bringing the total number of refugees from the newborn country in the state 84,000 refugees.

SRCS executive director in the White Nile, Osama Osman, said that 3197 families have arrived in the seven cantonment sites in the state from June 1 to July 5, 2015.

Genève, 2 février (HCR) – Après le succès de la première campagne en 2014, la Fondation IKEA a lancé lundi une nouvelle collecte de fonds dans les magasins à travers le monde pour financer des programmes d'énergie renouvelable et d'éducation au Bangladesh, au Tchad, en Ethiopie, en Jordanie et au Soudan.

La campagne « Un brillant avenir pour les réfugiés » se déroule depuis le 1er février jusqu'au 29 mars dans plus de 300 magasins IKEA et 40 pays. Pour chaque ampoule LED achetée dans les magasins participants, la Fondation IKEA versera un euro au HCR.
