La situation relative au Criquet pèlerin est restée calme en août. Bien que de bonnes pluies soient tombées dans la plupart des zones de reproduction estivale dans le nord du Sahel, de la Mauritanie à l'ouest de l'érythrée, seules quelques larves éparses ont été signalées en Mauritanie. Néanmoins, une reproduction est probablement en cours dans des parties du nord du Mali, du Niger, du Tchad, du Soudan et de l'érythrée.

Kigali, 2 September 2009 -- The World Health Organization has proposed measures for strengthening the capacity of Member States in the African Region for outbreak preparedness and response in the context of the current global Pandemic H1N1 2009.

The proposals are contained in a report presented by the WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Luis Sambo, to the WHO Regional Committee for Africa taking place in Kigali, Rwanda.

La situation relative au Criquet pèlerin est devenue calme dans toutes les zones en juillet. Des ailés épars étaient présents dans le nordouest de la Mauritanie, en Algérie et au Soudan. Les équipes terrestres nationales ont traité de petites infestations le long de la frontière algérienne, au Maroc, et dans les hautes-terres de l'éthiopie. Des ailés en faibles effectifs sont apparus au Pakistan, près de la frontière indienne.

General Context

Pandemic H1N1: The pandemic is flaring up in our Region. Fourteen (14) countries are now affected with a total of 589 confirmed cases without death reported as of 31st of July 2009. The Regional Office for Africa is organizing an African Conference on Pandemic A (H1N1) in South Africa 11-13 August 2009 to reflect mainly on the impacts of the pandemic.
