Le HCR, l’Agence des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés, a lancé aujourd’hui un appel urgent pour la mise à disposition de 1 300 places de réinstallation d’ici fin mars 2018 pour des réfugiés très vulnérables qui sont bloqués en Libye.

« C’est un appel désespéré à la solidarité et à l’humanité. Nous devons faire tout notre possible pour que des réfugiés extrêmement vulnérables quittent la Libye dès que possible », a déclaré Volker Türk, Haut Commissaire assistant du HCR chargé de la protection internationale.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, launched today an urgent appeal calling for 1,300 resettlement places to be made available by the end of March 2018 for highly vulnerable refugees stranded in Libya.

“This is a desperate call for solidarity and humanity. We need to get extremely vulnerable refugees out of Libya as soon as possible,” said Volker Türk, UNHCR’s Assistant High Commissioner for Protection.

During October – November 2017 DTM Libya’s Mobility Tracking identified 432,574 migrants* across all 22 mantikas (regions) in Libya. Migrants were identified in 99 baladiyas and 531 muhallas.

UK aid interventions designed to address irregular migration through the central Mediterranean are currently some distance from making a measurable impact, a new review has found. The Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) – which scrutinises taxpayer-funded UK aid – also warned that there is a risk that some programmes supported by UK aid in the region could cause unintended harm to vulnerable migrants.

In September, UNHCR Libya renewed the documents of 170 refugees and asylum seekers. With the closure of Al Wafa’s Office in Gargarish, renewal activities are now taking place in UNHCR’s office. In terms of voluntary repatriation, 12 family and 2 individuals requested assistance to return to Iraq. In September, UNHCR conducted a number of monitoring visits to assess protection needs of persons of concern in detention centres in Libya (see box on the right). Furthermore the office in Tripoli set up an information telephone hot-line for refugees and asylum seekers.

High Commissioner's Opening Statement to the 62nd Session of ExCom

GENEVA, 03 October, 2011– UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres warned today that an increasingly complex international environment is making it harder to find solutions for the world’s more than 43 million refugees, internally displaced and stateless people.

Speaking at the opening of the annual meeting in Geneva of UNHCR’s governing Executive Committee, Guterres said the international community needed to up its collective game to prevent conflict, to adapt to climate change and to better manage natural disasters.
