UNHCR is very grateful for the USD 113.18 million received from the Government of Japan during the first quarter of the 2012. 19 operations worldwide will benefit with some USD 83.18 million allocated to Africa and the Middle East while USD 30 million will help internally displaced persons and returnees inside Afghanistan as well as countries hosting Afghan refugees in the region. The Japanese funding will contribute toward UNHCR’s 2012 global requirement of USD 3.59 billion.
Yokohama - The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a US$114 million contribution from the government of Japan to provide urgently needed food and nutritional assistance to millions of the most vulnerable people including refugees, internally displaced people, malnourished children, pregnant and breastfeeding women in 21 countries. The donation will also support logistics operations in two countries.

World Refugee Day: UNHCR report finds 80 per cent of world's refugees in developing countries
GENEVA, June 20 (UNHCR) – A UNHCR report released today reveals deep imbalance in international support for the world's forcibly displaced, with a full four-fifths of the world's refugees being hosted by developing countries – and at a time of rising anti-refugee sentiment in many industrialized ones.
The WFP Aviation Service had a busy and challenging year in 2010 responding to emergencies in Haiti, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Niger, in addition to providing year-round air services for the humanitarian community in 13 countries affected by war and poverty. WFP Aviation is the world’s leading air service when it comes to saving lives. Afghanistan is the most significant riser in this year’s release of the internationally acclaimed global ranking Peoples Under Threat, which lists countries where communities are most at threat of mass killing, Minority Rights Group International (MRG) says.

This sixth edition of the Yearbook of Peace Processes analyses conflicts in which negotiations are being held to reach a peace agreement, regardless of whether these negotiations are formalised, are in the exploratory phase, are faring well or, to the contrary, are stalled or in the midst of crisis. It also analyses some cases in which negotiations or explorations are partial; that is, they do not include all the armed groups present in the country (such as the case of India, for example).

United Nations appeals for $498 million to address the challenge in 29 countries
GENEVA - Mine action initiatives in 29 countries, territories or peacekeeping missions will cost $498 million in 2011, according to the 14th edition of the annual Portfolio of Mine Action Projects, released today by the United Nations in Geneva.
The portfolio is an annual snapshot of the impact of landmines and explosive remnants of war in countries or territories with mine action programmes.
