"Even with World Vision successful community projects in Ethiopia, some parts of the country have been hit with such a severe drought that we are facing a calamity," Mr. Tim Shao, Chief Executive World Vision Taiwan, said this week.
Tim Shao made an appeal at the end of a two-day visit to both severely drought-stricken areas and communities where World Vision has been supporting long-term development to reduce the impact of drought.

Mr. Shao led a twelve-person delegation from Taiwan, including a celebrated musician, Wa-Kin, and Media personnel.

Although its border war with Eritrea has dominated newspaper headlines, Ethiopia’s drought is having by far the greater long-term humanitarian impact.
The failure of rains over the past three to four years has led to a series of poor harvests. The Tigray and Amhara regions in the east of Ethiopia together with the southern regions Oromiya and Somalia are struggling to cope with a severe food crisis.

Addis Ababa - Despite favourable, if somewhat unseasonable, rainfall in Addis Ababa, the rest of the country is still struggling with the drought and its aftermath.

The formerly drought-stricken areas are drought-stricken again.

After 15 days of good rain in the lowlands of Somali and Oromia regions in April, rain has been sparse or non-existent since. As the normal rainfall pattern for this area is that the major rains are in February to April, the rain started late and finished on time.
