Le gouvernement Français a annoncé une contribution de 500,000 Euros aux opérations du PAM pour porter une assistance alimentaire et nutritionnelle aux réfugiés sud-soudanais en Ethiopie.

La contribution aidera le PAM à venir en aide à plus de 70,000 réfugiés qui ont fui le conflit au Sud Soudan. La donation servira à acheter du blé pour les distributions mensuelles ainsi qu'un mélange soja-blé à haute valeur nutritionnelle qui contribue à combattre la malnutrition chez les enfants de moins de cinq ans et les femmes enceintes enrôlés dans les programmes de nutrition.

These highlights are part of the latest Annual Statistical Report on UN Procurement, which provides data and analysis on the goods and services procured by the UN system in support of its operations.

Ethiopia Received over 5,000 New Refugees

Five thousand one hundred and ninety three new refugees were registered in Ethiopia in the last two months and this brings to 427,077 the total number of refugees Ethiopia hosted by 30 November 2013. Nearly half (2,496) of the new arrivals came from Eritrea while the rest represent newcomers from Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan combined.

France will today sign in Addis Ababa a financing agreement amounting to €550,000 with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

This agreement provides for the funding of projects to support Eritrean refugees in Ethiopia, notably in the Tigray region. The projects focus in particular on the protection of girls and unaccompanied minors, improving psychological support for the most vulnerable refugees and, in the wake of the Lampedusa tragedy, raising awareness of the risks associated with illegal immigration networks.

DireDawa, December 8, 2011 (DireDawa) - Potable water project launched at Diredawa town administration at a cost of 2.8 million Birr has been completed, Town's Water and Sewerage Authority said.

Authority Manager, Jemal Yonis told ENA that facility would enhance the current 76 percent of water coverage of the town.

The construction cost of the facility was covered by Villeurbanne, Diredawa’s sister City of France.

Similarly, he said Villeurbanne City has also donated medical equipment including 110 delivery beds amounting to 800,000 Birr to Diredawa hospital.

The crisis unit of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs met on August 2 with 19 NGOs specializing in emergency humanitarian assistance, the French Red Cross and International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as several representatives of UN humanitarian agencies, four local government associations and two corporate foundations to define together the projects to put in place on an emergency basis.
